He decides to takeback control of his life after a bad patch, but he notices with bitterness thatthose he abandoned along the way are not ready to welcome him with open arms.While the demons from the past come knocking at his door, a chance encounter onthe Internet will change the course of his life.。清廷在甲午战争中失败，签下马关条约割让台湾。一八九五年五月，日本能久亲王赴台接收。同月，丘逢甲建立台湾民主国，反抗日人统治。苗栗地方的秀才吴汤兴（温升豪 饰）受丘逢甲所托，筹备义军。吴汤兴宅心仁厚，深孚众望，妻子黄贤（杨谨华 饰）深明大义，一时间，当地豪杰徐骧、新竹姜绍祖等人纷纷投入麾下，义军同仇敌忾，欲将东洋番打出台湾。 义军利用地形优势与日军展开游击战，部分弥补了武器的劣势，同时，不甘被异族统治的山贼林天霸也带着自己的队伍加入了义军。六月二十四日，日军发动了针对桃园和新竹的进攻，义军的处境愈发困难，但吴汤兴等人的坚决反抗，激发了更多台湾人抵抗的决心。。
